Grand Order of the Invisibles

The fight is never about grapes or lettuce. It is always about people. - Cesar Chavez

Ornate jewelry and decorations of honor have historically symbolized power and prominence to royalty, religious figures, high-ranking military personnel and fraternal organizations. These honors,  associated with birth or exclusivity, have glorified the elite and promoted a hierarchical status.

I have co-opted this tradition to celebrate the WORK that marginalized laborers perform without recognition. Collages with elaborate crowns, necklaces, and badges have been created to honor their work and bring visibility to their important contributions.
